Miss Dawn Hubbard is our Family Worker. She works closely with external agencies and professionals in relation to families who require additional support. She works with a variety of families and is always available to offer emotional and financial advice and support.
Miss Hubbard also gives emotional and practical advice and support to families that are having long and short-term difficulties. By supporting families and facilitating groups she helps parents and carers support their child’s learning and, ultimately, enjoys spending time with their children.
Our family team works closely with the Education Welfare Officer and carry out Home visits in order to monitor attendance.

Mrs Emma Wainwright and Miss Lisa Wilson are our Learning Mentors. As Learning Mentors they work either with individual children or small groups to help children to achieve their full potential and overcome particular barriers to learning. A Learning Mentor is a professional friend who can bridge the gap between home and school, providing support and practical advice on various issues that may be affecting a pupils learning.
Lots of fun this morning at our PEEP session where children (and adults) taking part in Dough Disco with playdough they made themselves. The aim of the activity is to strengthen their finger and hand muscles in order to help develop early writing skills.
At one of our PEEP sessions, this child has written a doctor's note for Banana Medicine for the gorilla's bad cough. The aim of this activity was to provide opportunities for writing in play (and for the gorilla to get better!)

Phonics Family Learning - October 2019
In the first of our Family Phonics sessions, Mrs Baldwin and Miss Hubbard worked with the children and parents to make ears ready for them to go on a sound hunt around the school. It's important that children are able to recognise different sounds as part of Phase 1 Phonics. It looks like everyone had great fun!
Father's Day Fun - June 2019
Thank you to all of the dads, grandads and important men who came along to our Father's Day event this afternoon. There was fun, laughter, teamwork and lots of friendly competition! Happy Father's Day everyone.
Total Wellbeing Healthy Lifestyles - May 2019
It was great to see so many parents in school for our Total Wellbeing session with the children this afternoon - it kept everyone very active in the lovely sunshine!
Mother's Day Beautiful Breakfast - March 2019

Our Maths Family Learning for Key Stage 2 got off to a great start today. Mr Ledster and Miss Hubbard worked with parents to look at how maths is taught at Southfield and strategies that are used before inviting children down to see maths in action.
