Yesterday, I sent a message to all families explaining that school will be open on Tuesday 5th January for the start of the spring term. This decision is based on the government's current expectation for primary schools in Luton to remain open. I do understand concerns that parents may have and, I am sure that many of you are aware that yesterday evening, Luton Borough Council have said that there will not be any fines for parents who choose not to send children back to school at present.
I have thought long and hard about what is the best decision to make for Southfield, which is made difficult by the lack of clarity at national level and lots of last minute changes that impact families who then need to make last minute changes themselves. I do not know what is coming next from the government, although I understand there may be a further update coming in the next few days, but intend to remain open where possible for families who want to continue sending children to school or who need to due to work commitments etc. It is important to be aware that this may change if there are any further announcements by the government or due to staff absence. Parents who do not want to send children back to school for the start of term will be supported with remote learning and will not be fined.
In order to support with planning provision for in school and remote learning, I ask that all families answer the questions on the Parentmail form that has been sent to all families as soon as possible. This form will close at 1pm today.
Thank you for your support
